Obesity currently affects more than 2 in 5 adults in the United States and demonstrates significant associations with cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes (T2D), metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and steatohepatitis (MASH), osteoarthritis, sleep disorders, and reproductive health complications. Obesity care continues to evolve with advancing treatment options, emerging best practices in comorbidity management, and evidence-based guidance on patient-centered approaches, creating new opportunities to improve outcomes for patients living with obesity.

To support clinicians in comprehensive obesity management, this educational initiative will facilitate peer-to-peer learning, case-based discussions, and practical guidance through simulation-based scenarios. Participants will gain enhanced competence in recognizing and managing the relationships between obesity and a range of comorbidities, develop skills in creating individualized treatment plans that integrate evidence-based pharmacological and lifestyle interventions, and strengthen patient-centered communication strategies that support treatment adherence and improved patient outcomes.

Book Your Simulation Sessions

Simulation 1: Meet Pat Cameron, patient on GLP-1 with upcoming surgery

Guide Pat through surgery prep, medication safety, and heart health concerns in a 20-minute appointment.

Simulation 2: Meet Riley Morgan, patient facing energy and weight issues amidst life transitions

Guide Riley using bias-aware care that addresses depression, social isolation, and fatigue in the context of weight management in a 20-minute appointment. Please book session 2 at least two weeks after session 1.

Self-Study Modules and Live Group Discussion

Baseline Assessment

Answer the following questions to assess your knowledge on obesity management.

Module 1: Obesity in the Context of Liver and Kidney Disease

This module covers obesity as a chronic disease and its associations with MASLD, MASH, and cardiovascular comorbidities. Learn to recognize the health impacts and clinical presentations that inform evidence-based obesity management decisions.

Module 2: Obesity and Obstructive Sleep Apnea

This module focuses on individualized obesity treatment planning for patients with sleep apnea and pharmacological therapy challenges. Learn to integrate evidence-based interventions while managing treatment responses and complications.

Module 3: Obesity and Evolving Treatment Goals

This module covers treatment response assessment beyond weight metrics, dose optimization strategies, and evolving treatment goals throughout the long-term obesity management journey.

Final Assessment

Now that you have reviewed the self-study modules, answer the following questions to assess your knowledge on obesity management.

Live Group Discussion 1

Group Members will share reflections on their appointments with Pat Cameron and Riley Morgan, including key take-aways and lessons learned.

Case Discussions and Live Group Discussion

Patient Case 1 – MT, a 52-year-old man with obesity and metabolic complications

This activity features a patient with abnormal liver enzymes and multiple metabolic risk factors. The case highlights challenges in systematic evaluation, risk stratification, and developing coordinated treatment approaches.

Patient Case 2 – JM, a 55-year-old woman with treatment plateau and access challenges

This activity features a patient with inadequate response to lifestyle interventions who faces medication access barriers. The case highlights treatment optimization strategies and healthcare navigation challenges.

Establishing an Action Plan

In light of the information reviewed and discussed during this program, please share an action plan that you will implement to improve the diagnosis and management for your patients with obesity.

Live Group Discussion 2

Group Members will discuss their responses to Patient Case 1 and 2 and the Action Plans entered by the group.
