Description: Obesity is associated with significant comorbid conditions including type 2 diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and cancer, as well as reduced quality of life and poorer mental health. While primary care providers often manage obesity-related comorbidities, obesity itself is not often directly addressed and remains undertreated. This educational program supports the consistent delivery of evidence-based obesity counseling and treatment in primary care settings. It focuses on improving the understanding and skills of primary care clinicians in working with their patients to manage their weight through evidence-based actions based in cultural humility.

Angela Thatcher

Lifelong Health & Wellness
Owner and PA-C

Board certified PA and obesity medicine specialist. I have practiced in my home state of North Carolina since graduating from East Carolina University in 2016. Early in my career in family medicine, I realized the need for additional training in obesity medicine in order to provide the best care for my patients. During this time, I completed the Certificate of Advanced Education in Obesity Medicine through the OMA and began incorporating obesity medicine into our primary care clinic. In 2022, I opened my own practice, Lifelong Health & Wellness, and transitioned to obesity medicine full time. As a dedicated patient advocate with a background in social work before becoming a PA, I am excited for the opportunity to expand patients’ access to care by empathic and well-prepared clinicians. I look forward to sharing my clinical experiences and insights, as well as learning from yours.
