Description: Obesity is associated with significant comorbid conditions including type 2 diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and cancer, as well as reduced quality of life and poorer mental health. While primary care providers often manage obesity-related comorbidities, obesity itself is not often directly addressed and remains undertreated. This educational program supports the consistent delivery of evidence-based obesity counseling and treatment in primary care settings. It focuses on improving the understanding and skills of primary care clinicians in working with their patients to manage their weight through evidence-based actions based in cultural humility.

I am a passionate and experienced Obesity Medicine Specialist Physician Assistant who deeply cares about the care of my patients affected by obesity. Using my experience in Family Medicine for 9 years, my approach to weight-management is holistic and patient-centered. My training includes an undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities and a master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Augsburg University. I have a certificate of Advanced Education in Obesity Medicine from the Obesity Medicine Association, of which I am an active member. I also completed the Obesity Management in Primary Care certificate program from the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Obesity Society. I serve as the President of the Minnesota Obesity Society along side an all-woman board of directors. In my free time, I enjoy reading fictional mysteries, listening to true-crime podcasts, watching my girls compete in gymnastics and playing a lot of card games with my husband.
