Obesity is associated with significant comorbid conditions including type 2 diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and cancer, as well as reduced quality of life and poorer mental health. While primary care providers often manage obesity-related comorbidities, obesity itself is not often directly addressed and remains undertreated. This educational program supports the consistent delivery of evidence-based obesity counseling and treatment in primary care settings. It focuses on improving the understanding and skills of primary care clinicians in working with their patients to manage their weight through evidence-based actions based in cultural humility.
Please answer the following questions to assess your understanding of obesity diagnosis and management.
This module covers understanding obesity management through the lens of cultural humility.
This module presents two conversations between patients and their physicians regarding the management of obesity. One involves bringing up the topic with a patient and the other features a patient whose weight loss plan is no longer working.

This module presents two conversations between patients and their physicians regarding the management of obesity. One, a woman who would like to try a new weight loss medication, the other a man coping with social and physical changes from a weight loss medication.
Now that you have reviewed the self-study modules, answer the following questions to assess your understanding of obesity diagnosis and management.
The first live group discussion will allow learners to review any low scoring Baseline Assessment responses, review the patient simulations, engage with a standardized patient to role play, and to discuss challenging cases with each other.
The patient is a 37-year-old woman who has been working with you to lose weight but is still not at her goal weight.
The patient is a 45-year-old man who has several comorbidities for obesity. You are working with him to develop a health maintenance plan that includes weight loss.
In light of the information reviewed and discussed during this program, please share an action plan that you will implement to improve the diagnosis and management for your patients with obesity.
The second live group discussion will allow learners to review the group challenges and compare interesting responses, review the action plans that they have created, and discuss challenging cases that they have witnessed recently.
